No progress in strike talks

A 2 1/2 hour meeting Monday night in Cranberry led to no significant movement in the week-long standoff between the Seneca Valley teachers and the school district. From the Tribune-Review:

School district labor counsel Tom King said the union rejected a six-point plan the district proposed to settle the strike and have teachers return to classrooms on Thursday. It offered contract lengths of two to five years with pay raises of 4 percent each year.

Teachers want an average raise of 6.3 percent in each year of the contract, according to the district.

"We are absolutely nowhere at this point," King said. "It looks to us like this is going to be a long strike.

Patrick Andrekovich, chief negotiator for the 585-member Seneca Valley Education Association, called on parents to become proactive and tell school board members to bargain with the union.
