Strike update

After three and a half hours of talks to resolve the Seneca Valley teachers' strike yesterday, there was little movement and the strike will continue.

The parties agreed on two previously unsettled economic issues and are close to settling several others, he said.

"However, wages and health insurance, which are two of the biggest issues, are not among them," he said.

Butch Santicola, spokesman for the teachers union, said only that negotiations were continuing and that teachers would continue to walk a picket line. He declined further comment.

Seneca teacher strike will extend into next week
It was the third state-mediated session in less than a week and the first since the strike began Monday. It also was the first bargaining session attended by school Superintendent Donald Tylinski.

Though no major progress resulted, King called the meeting "productive."

"If they are talking, that's good," said Butch Santicola, spokesman for the Pennsylvania State Education Association, the union that represents Seneca's teachers.

The strike by the district's 585 teachers is in its fourth day.
