Steeler Game Goes Black

Today's Steelers/Patriots game went out for almost an entire quarter on Armstrong Cable today. The problem was isolated to Armstrong's KDKA signal. From the KDKA website:

Armstrong Cable had an equipment failure at their head-end which affected KDKA-TV's signal during the Steelers/Patriots game.

The equipment failure took KDKA-TV and other stations off the air for much of the first half of the game.

No other cable systems, satellite providers or our on-air signal were affected.

Armstrong Cable is investigating to find out what happened.

UPDATE: KDKA has a newer article out that describes the problem in more depth.
In a statement released today, the cable company now says "equipment failure at the central facility in Zelienople" is to blame for the outage that occurred at 4:40pm.

The company says the outage, which affected about one-third of its channel line-up, lasted about an hour.

All the channels were restored after a technician managed to re-set the equipment that had failed.

Unfortunately, Armstrong Cable doesn't do the best job of making announcements, whether they are negative or positive. More will be posted as information is made public.

Yes this was an unfortunate situation for people that only have cable. We all must understand that this could have happened to any cable provider. Fortunately Armstrong has a very rock solid cable system so this does not happen very often. I would suggest to people that want a backup source purchase an antenna for their TV, or buy an HD tuner for their computer, or laptop for situations like these. If you are in a good location like me in Cranberry you can receive HD signals over the air.

You could have switch to ch 72 to view the game. I think Armstrong should offer its customers a discount for the outage. I also was very disappointed to see that Armstrong doesn't have any phone support for cable on Sundays. What is I lost my cable totally on a Sunday? I guess I would have to wait until Monday to make a call. When the feed went out during the game we tried to call and all circuits were busy so everyone that had Armstrong must have called. This also cost bars and restaurants money because people left thinking it was the bars issue and not Armstrong cable.

Thank god I knew about channel 72 ... but I wonder how many others didn't know.

There's nothing worse than pissing off a Steeler Fan! LOL
